You know it doesn’t belong in the typical curbside trash pick-up. But where do you take these strange odds and ends when you want to do what’s right for the environment? Those in Abington Township will soon have a solution.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, Abington Township will host an “Anything with a Plug” collection event. In order to responsibly recycle small appliances, electronics, and electrified devices, the township provides specified days each year to assist area residents.

The pick-up will take place at the Abington Township Public Works Building, located at 2201 Florey Lane from 9 a.m. to noon. Pre-registration for dropping off your items is required, and can be done online here.

The event is thanks to a partnership with Retrievr and Montgomery County. Many items will be collected at no charge, including:

  • Laptops
  • Typewriters
  • Telephones
  • Microwaves
  • Cameras
  • Cell phones
  • Calculators
  • Computers
  • Mice
  • Small appliances
  • Fax machines
  • Keyboards
  • Printers

There cannot be any batteries, light bulbs, dehumidifiers, smoke detectors, portable air conditioning units, or large appliances dropped at the collection site. If you have one of these excluded items, the Township encourages residents to review the website here, to find out where to dispose of such items.

Some items at the event will come with a charge for recycling. At this event, the charged items will be televisions and computer monitors. The price ranges will vary from $30 to $100 depending on the size and manufactured materials used. Checks, credit cards, and cash are accepted for payment.
