Residents in several Upper Moreland neighborhoods can expect construction activity beginning in early May as PECO moves forward with a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving electric reliability and reducing outages.
According to the utility company, the project will involve replacing aging underground transformers with newer pad-mounted units, as well as installing new underground electric cables throughout the area. The upgrades are designed to strengthen the local power grid, improve safety, and speed up restoration times during outages, particularly during severe weather events.
Work will take place along:
Construction is expected to run from early May through mid-August 2026.
As part of the project, some pad-mounted transformers may be installed on residential properties, typically near existing equipment. Homeowners affected by these installations will be contacted directly by PECO. Crews will also use specialized machinery to install new conduit and underground cables.
Officials say efforts will be made to minimize disruptions, though temporary power outages may be necessary at times to safely complete the work. Residents are encouraged to ensure their contact information is up to date with PECO to receive advance notice of any service interruptions.
Any areas impacted by construction, including yards and streets, will be restored to their original condition once work is completed.
