Earlier this month, Jefferson Abington Hospital hosted more than 60 families at the second annual Community Baby Shower sponsored by Montco Mamas, an initiative of Maternity Care Coalition.
The celebration connected expectant parents and families with babies up to 6 months of age with services from the hospital and community partners. One of the highlights was an interactive session where guests had the opportunity to ask questions of a panel that included members of Montco Mamas’ doula team and two registered nurses from Jefferson Abington Women and Children’s Nursing team -- Nadji Gilliam and Honor Weber.
The afternoon was filled with fun, food and learning, and families received important self-care and parenting information, essential supplies in a diaper bag/backpack with diapers, wipes and a Brown Bear book, along with onesies, infant hats, bibs and blankets. Large items were raffled off through the registrants’ participation in games, including car seats, travel systems, high chairs, pack n’ plays, and play mats. Most of all, participants left the event with the knowledge that they have a welcoming community of support on their parenting journey.
