One Abington man was recently rewarded with a $75 million payout after a lawsuit against Round-Up, when Philadelphia courts found the product responsible for his cancer.

According to a report on Fox 29, an Abington resident was granted the awarded funds after proving his Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a rare blood cancer that impacts lymph nodes, was a result of his use of the product between 1992 and 2020.

The report notes that the key ingredient in the weed killer, glyphosate, is to blame, and the Penn State Extension said that this common herbicide was first registered in 1874.

The office said that studies took many organizations over several years to make headway on the harms glyphosate cause to humans.

“Several organizations have evaluated cancer risks associated with glyphosate in recent years,” said the Extension’s site. “These assessments consider epidemiological, toxicology and genotoxicity studies. In 2015, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that ‘Glyphosate is probably carcinogenic to humans.’”
