PHILADELPHIA — Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano entered Sunday's start against the Phillies with a respectable 3.41 ERA, but a 4.94 FIP that suggested regression was coming. And Kyle Schwarber turned theory into reality quickly in Sunday's 6-0 series-clinching win over the Rockies.
Schwarber, batting second for the Phillies, took a Sugano offering and hit it off the batter's eye in center field:

It was Schwarber's fourth consecutive game with a home run, marking the second time he's done that in his career, with the previous coming July 15-18 of 2023.
Not to be outdone, Bryce Harper followed Schwarber with a home run of his own, this his 10th of the campaign:

After a two-run first inning, the Phillies added three more off of Sugano in the second inning. Bryson Stott scored on a throwing error by Colorado catcher Hunter Goodman, while Trea Turner plated Alec Bohm with a sacrifice fly. And then ... Schwarber hit another home run:

Schwarber already entered the day leading the National League in homers, but with his two blasts, he passed Aaron Judge and Munetaka Murakami to take over sole possession of the MLB lead at 16. (Minutes later, Judge homered in Milwaukee to re-tie Schwarber.)
Sugano ultimately logged five innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs, with his ERA now at 4.07 following one of his worst outings of the year.
The Phillies added a sixth run in the bottom of the sixth inning when an infield single from Bohm plated Brandon Marsh. While we're on the topic of Marsh, he had four more hits today, and is now batting .353 on the season.
That offense was more than enough for Cristopher Sánchez, who cruised on the mound, scattering six hits over seven shutout innings, while striking out seven batters and walking zero. For all the concern about the number of hits Sánchez was giving up early in the season, his ERA is now down to 2.11 over his first nine outings of the season. According to FanGraphs, he's tied with Dylan Cease for the second-highest WAR among starting pitchers at 1.9, trailing only Cam Schlitter's 2.4 mark.
With the win, the Phillies improve to 19-22. They are 10-3.
The Phillies will be off Monday, before heading to Fenway Park to begin a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday with Zack Wheeler on the mound.
