Police responded to a reported burglary in progress Tuesday morning at an apartment complex in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township, leading to the identification of a suspect accused of forcibly entering and occupying a vacant unit.
According to the Abington Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:52 a.m. on April 21 to the 100 York Apartments at 101 Washington Lane. A witness reported multiple individuals inside a unit that was believed to be vacant.
Upon arrival, officers encountered several individuals matching the witness description as they left the area on foot toward Old York Road. One of those individuals was identified as Jamir Manzano, 19, of Philadelphia.
The witness told police he had previously encountered Manzano the day before, between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., and confirmed with property management that the unit was unoccupied. After informing Manzano he was not permitted on the property, the witness said he secured the unit by changing the locks.
However, on the morning of April 21, the witness reported seeing Manzano and others back inside the apartment, along with damage to the front door.
Police confirmed damage to the door lock and, upon entering the unit, observed signs that the space had been occupied, including personal items and other belongings scattered throughout.
Investigators say Manzano admitted to staying in the apartment and told officers that after finding the door locked, he had someone force entry so he and others could continue using the unit.
Property management estimated the damage to the door at approximately $250 and confirmed that Manzano did not have a lease or authorization to occupy the apartment.
Manzano is being charged with multiple felonies related to criminal trespass.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 27, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
