After an extensive search process, the Jenkintown School Board has appointed Dr. Brea D’Angelo, currently director of educational affairs in the Hatboro-Horsham School District, to the role of superintendent, effective July 13, 2026.

Dr. D’Angelo has been an administrator in Hatboro-Horsham since 2014, serving in numerous roles. As director of educational affairs for the last five years, she has helped to lead district operations, instructional systems, communications, and cross-departmental strategic  leadership. In this role she led several significant districtwide initiatives, including those in the areas of technology, construction, curriculum, instruction, staff development, and comprehensive planning.

“Dr. D’Angelo stood out in a highly competitive pool of candidates because of her exceptional combination of academic, operational, and communications experience,” said school board President Carolyn Riley. “Throughout our search process, she earned strong support from staff  and community participants, reflecting the kind of collaborative, respectful leadership and  communication our district values. Those qualities were a central priority for the board as we considered the kind of leadership Jenkintown needs.”

In addition to working as district-level administrator and part of the Hatboro-Horsham executive leadership team, Dr. D’Angelo was also principal of Pennypack Elementary School and an assistant principal at Keith Valley Middle School. She began her career as a teacher in the  Lower Moreland School District. She is married and has a 16-year-old daughter.

“I am excited to join the Jenkintown School District and to work in partnership with a community that clearly values education and relationships,” said D’Angelo. “Together, we will continue to strengthen opportunities for students while honoring the traditions that make the Drake community so special.”

The school board approved a contract for D’Angelo at its April 20 meeting. Jenkintown was supported by the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit in conducting the  search for a new superintendent.

“The search included a significant amount of input from staff, parents, and community  members,” Riley said. “We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to consider and interview numerous highly qualified candidates.”

Riley said the board extends its appreciation and gratitude to acting superintendent, Steven Van Mater, in leading the district with fidelity and great care over the last several months. He will return this summer to his prior role of director of curriculum and human resources.

Dr. D’Angelo will be scheduling introductory meetings with Jenkintown staff, parents, and  community members in the coming weeks.
