A man who sexually assaulted a woman while she slept inside a Fort Washington home has been sentenced to state prison, Montgomery County officials announced, according to a report.
Richard Anthony Rodriguez, 48, of Whittier, pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent assault without consent stemming from a 2024 incident in Upper Dublin Township.
A judge sentenced Rodriguez to 14 to 60 months in a state correctional facility, followed by three years of probation after parole, meaning he could be under supervision for up to eight years. He will also be subject to sex offender supervision and must comply with recommended treatment.
According to investigators, Rodriguez was visiting a family he knew when the assault occurred at a residence in the Fort Washington section of the township.
The 24-year-old victim told police she woke up during the night on Oct. 19, 2024, to find Rodriguez touching her without consent. She told him to stop, and he eventually did, according to court documents.
Rodriguez left the home the next day and returned to California. The incident was reported to Upper Dublin police on Nov. 1, launching the investigation.
In a statement shared in court, the victim described ongoing emotional trauma, including stress, fear, and isolation following the assault.
As part of the sentence, Rodriguez must have no contact with the victim and will be required to register as a sex offender for life under Pennsylvania law.
Prosecutors said the sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the violation of trust involved.
Additional charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
