Montgomery County teens will have an opportunity to speak directly with elected officials next month at the Montco Youth Summit.

The inaugural forum hosted by the Montgomery County Commissioners is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 2, at College Hall on Montgomery County Community College’s Blue Bell campus, located at 340 Morris Road.

Organizers anticipate upwards of 100 attendees to discuss a myriad of issues impacting high school students, ranging from mental health to substance use and social media, according to a Montgomery County spokesperson.

“For far too long, decisions about the future have been made without the voices of those who will live it. This summit flips that script,” Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairwoman Jamila Winder said in a statement.

The event will also feature breakout sessions for students to discuss several topics, per a county spokesperson, including civic engagement, school safety and workforce development.

A question-and-answer period will follow with Winder, along with Vice Chairman Neil Makhija and Commissioner Tom DiBello. Those interested in participating should register by April 22 at montgomerycountypa.gov/YouthSummit.

“Our young people understand the challenges facing their generation better than anyone,” Winder said in a statement. “So, when we give them a seat at the table, we can learn better ideas and, in turn, create better policies for a stronger Montgomery County."
