With its recent official establishment on May 9, 2024, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Abington Township is still in the process of “finding its way.”

The EDC is a “quasi-governmental nonprofit corporation, foundation, or association whose mission is to provide the economic development to a targeted geographical area,” explained the group’s website. In order to do so, the EDC will focus efforts on promoting economic development in the township by helping Abington to:

  • Maintain existing business communities, community assets, occupancy levels and employment
  • Enhance downtown centers, vacant properties, multi-modal transportation and community facilities
  • Attract investment, revitalization, new employers, and job growth
  • Grow the economy, job market, quality of life of residents, and community assets.

Thus far, the EDC has created the organization’s Article of Incorporation, as well as its by-laws for operations. Its management services have been posted here.

Those seeking the group’s funding opportunity matrix, can visit the site here. The Keswick Stakeholder Facilitation Outline, which includes its deliverable tasks, can be found here.

With only a handful of meetings, the group has already also prepared its board. Members include Cornelius Brown, chair, John Dean, vice chair, and Denise Yarnoff, member. The Executive Director Richard J. Manfredi leads the group, with solicitor servies performed by David Sastir and Michael Thom, both of Obermayer.

While the EDC met on June 13 for its first organizational meeting, the team also gathered on Sept. 18. Its third and next upcoming session sis to be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. The public may attend in person at 1176 Old York Road, in Abington, in the second-floor board room. Others that wish to attend via webinar can click on the Zoom meeting here. Or dial in by telephone at 1-929-436-2866, and entering meeting ID number 867-9259-0538.

An agenda for the Oct. 23 meeting was not yet available at the time of publication. It may later be added to the site here, prior to the public meeting.

Those interested in finding out more or participating in any way with the EDC can attend a public meeting to find out details.
