Man to face trial for allegedly shooting bullet into Abington residence, according to report

An 18-year-old King of Prussia man will face trial in Montgomery County after authorities say he fired several shots at a moving SUV in Abington Township, according to a report, with one bullet striking a nearby occupied home just steps from a park where a youth basketball game was underway.
Jamell David Whitmore, of the 200 block of West DeKalb Pike, waived his preliminary hearing and was ordered to Montgomery County Court on charges including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering another person and related offenses.
The charges stem from a shooting reported around 8:15 p.m. on March 22 in the parking lot of the McKinley Fire Company in the 800 block of Jenkintown Road.
According to the Abington Township Police Department, investigators recovered three shell casings at the scene. One of the bullets shattered the glass front door of a home in the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue and partially penetrated an interior door. The house was occupied at the time, but no one was injured.
The shooting happened while a basketball game was taking place at Ethel Jordan Park, which sits adjacent to the fire company, raising concerns about how close the gunfire came to families and children gathered nearby.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from several cameras and allege Whitmore was seen in the area for several hours in an Infiniti sedan. Police say video shows him retrieving a handgun from his sweatshirt and firing three shots from an elevated position in the fire company parking lot at a black SUV traveling north on Cadwalader Avenue.
After the gunfire, Whitmore allegedly drove away with at least four other individuals. Investigators have not identified the owner or driver of the SUV, and authorities have not released a motive for the shooting.
Whitmore remains free after posting $99,000 cash bail through a bonding company. He is scheduled for formal arraignment in Montgomery County Court on June 3.
