A man with a history of retail theft convictions was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly stealing merchandise from a Willow Grove shopping center store, police said.

Officers from the Abington Police Department responded around 2:15 p.m. on April 7 to the Rally House in the Willow Grove section of Abington Township, Pennsylvania for a report of a theft in progress.

According to authorities, dispatchers provided a description of the suspect as a man wearing a black jacket and face mask. Upon arrival, officers spotted an individual matching that description walking near a neighboring store.

Police identified the suspect as Raleigh Wimbush 60, of Philadelphia, and took him into custody without incident.

While being detained, Wimbush allegedly admitted to the theft and repeatedly apologized to officers. A search of his belongings revealed five t-shirts taken from the store, with a total value of $286.90.

Store employees told police they observed Wimbush selecting merchandise, concealing it, and then passing all points of sale without attempting to pay. An employee later positively identified him as the individual responsible.

Authorities emphasized that this was not an isolated incident. According to police, Wimbush has seven prior retail theft convictions, highlighting a pattern of repeated offenses.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. before Judge John D. Kessler.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
