An Abington Township traffic stop led to drug-related charges after police say they discovered marijuana and suspected distribution materials inside a vehicle, according to authorities.
Malachi Brown, 26, of Philadelphia, is facing a felony charge stemming from the incident, which took place around 11:31 p.m. on March 18 at the intersection of Old York Road and Old Orchard Road.
Police said an officer on routine patrol stopped a white Chrysler sedan displaying a temporary Pennsylvania registration that was later determined to be fraudulent. A records check through national and state databases returned no information for the tag, prompting the traffic stop.
The driver was identified as Brown. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer reported detecting the odor of marijuana and observing a small amount of marijuana in plain view, along with multiple packaging materials.
During the investigation, police said they recovered several items from the vehicle, including multiple bags of marijuana, THC edibles, THC wax, a digital scale and unused packaging pouches. Officers also recovered $106 in cash in various denominations.
Authorities said Brown claimed ownership of the marijuana and related items.
Based on the quantity of drugs, the presence of packaging materials and a scale, and the cash recovered, police allege the items are consistent with intent to distribute. Charges have been requested in connection with the incident.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29, 2026 a 11:15 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
