Police in Abington Township are investigating a shooting that sent bullets through a residential block in Elkins Park Sunday night, but fortunately left no one injured.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched around 8:15 p.m. on March 22 to the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue in Elkins Park after multiple 911 callers reported hearing a series of gunshots. Witnesses also described seeing a large group of people running from the area near the basketball court behind the McKinley Firehouse.
Preliminary findings indicate that a large gathering had been taking place near the court when a vehicle traveling northbound on Cadwalader Avenue passed by. Investigators say two males ran into the firehouse parking lot, retrieved firearms, and one of them fired multiple rounds at the moving vehicle.
The suspects fled shortly after the shooting, leaving the scene in two separate vehicles, described as an Audi sedan of unknown color and a gray Infiniti sedan.
Despite the gunfire, no injuries have been reported by police or local hospitals. However, one home on the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue was struck by a bullet. A canvass of the neighborhood did not uncover any additional damage.
Police are now asking residents and business owners in the area to check surveillance or doorbell camera footage from the time of the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Abington Police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
