Bryn Athyn College keeps accreditation after year of financial cuts

While accreditation has been reaffirmed, the college must continue to demonstrate long-term stability

After facing uncertainty last year, Bryn Athyn College of the New Church has had its accreditation reaffirmed, according to a recent decision by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

According to reporting from The Philadelphia Inquirer, the small private Christian college, located near Willow Grove, had been warned in March 2025 that its accreditation was at risk due to concerns about leadership, governance, and administration. That warning came during a difficult period for the school, which was also dealing with financial challenges.

In response, the college made significant cuts, including eliminating all 11 varsity sports programs and reducing staffing by about 20 full-time positions. School leaders described the moves at the time as necessary to stabilize finances and protect the college’s future.

The accrediting commission now says the college has addressed those concerns and is back in compliance with required standards.

While accreditation has been reaffirmed, the college must continue to demonstrate long-term stability. Officials are required to submit a follow-up report by July 1 showing that recent changes, particularly in leadership structure and governance, are sustainable.

For families and students in the Willow Grove and surrounding communities, the reaffirmation means the college remains fully accredited, for now, while continuing to work toward long-term financial and administrative stability.

About Bryn Athyn College

Founded in 1877, Bryn Athyn College serves a relatively small student body, with just over 270 undergraduates enrolled in recent years. Despite its size, the school remains a longstanding institution in the local area, drawing students interested in a faith-based education.
