The chancellor of Penn State Abington has been selected to represent his conference in a national advisory role with the National Collegiate Athletic Association, according to an announcement.

Gary Liguori, chancellor of the Abington campus, has been appointed to the NCAA Division III Presidents’ Advisory Group, where he will represent the United East Conference through January 2028.

Penn State Abington currently sponsors 14 NCAA Division III athletic teams.

The Presidents’ Advisory Group is made up of university presidents and chancellors from across the country and helps guide policy discussions and long-term planning within Division III athletics. The NCAA relies on these groups to provide feedback on issues ranging from governance and legislation to the overall student-athlete experience and financial stability within the division.

“As a former NCAA student-athlete, I am honored to represent the United East Conference on the Presidents' Advisory Group," Liguori said. "I look forward to helping shape national strategies for Division III athletics that strengthen governance, inform strategic priorities, and expand opportunities so student-athletes can thrive both on the field and in life.”

Conference leadership said Liguori’s involvement will help ensure the perspectives of United East schools are represented in national conversations about Division III athletics.

Liguori will serve on the advisory group while continuing his role leading the Abington campus.
