A new community astronomy group based in Elkins Park is inviting residents of all ages to look up and explore the universe together.
Known as Skywatchers, the local community astronomy club was founded with the goal of bringing neighbors together through shared experiences under the night sky. The group emphasizes that astronomy is about more than stars and planets, it’s about curiosity, learning, and community connection.

Skywatchers’ mission is to make astronomy accessible, hands-on, and welcoming for everyone, from experienced stargazers to beginners who are simply curious about what they see overhead. The club plans to offer telescope viewing nights, sky-watching events, educational workshops, talks, and family-friendly programs designed to spark interest in science and discovery.
Organizers say the club focuses on inclusivity and inspiration, encouraging participants of all ages to engage with astronomy in a relaxed, social setting.
