Emergency crews responded to a reported fire that originated in a hot tub in the rear of a home on the 3500 block of Mill Road in Upper Moreland Township on Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. and then quickly spread to the rear and side of the house. Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and worked to contain the flames. Emergency responders needed to cut a hole on the side of the house for ventilation, eventually bringing the fire under control.
There was extensive fire damage to the house, and the hot tub was destroyed in the fire.
A witness in the area reported seeing black smoke coming from behind the home, prompting the emergency response.
No injuries were immediately reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been released. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Mill Road will be closed between Newington and Orchard for an extended period of time. Officials are asking residents to avoid the area.
Emergency crews from Second Alarmers Rescue Squad responded to the scene. Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro, Abington Fire Company, Horsham Fire Company, and Upper Moreland Fire Company were dispatched to the scene.
