A Glenside man was taken into custody after police discovered he was wanted on an active warrant and was allegedly in possession of a firearm he was prohibited from carrying, according to documents.
Bernard Hyppolite, 76, of Glenside, is facing felony charges related to carrying a firearm without a license
According to police, the incident occurred around 4:31 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, in the area of Easton Road and Tyson Avenue in the Abington section of the township. An officer on patrol observed a black Nissan Altima with heavily tinted windows that obscured the view of the driver.
After checking the vehicle’s registration, police learned the registered owner, identified as Hyppolite, had an active warrant for simple assault. Officers initiated a traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens and made contact with the driver, who was confirmed to be Hyppolite.
Hyppolite was asked to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, police reported recovering a Glock 43X semi-automatic handgun from his possession.
Authorities stated that due to the active warrant, Hyppolite was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2026, at12:15 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
