WINTER BLIZZARD 2026

SEPTA shutting down service at 2 p.m., due to worsening storm

As of Sunday afternoon, all Regional Rail, bus routes, and Metro Route G1 were scheduled to be suspended

  • Local

SEPTA will suspend most transit service Sunday afternoon as winter storm conditions continued to deteriorate across the region.

The agency announced that all bus and Regional Rail service will be halted beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, with service remaining suspended for the rest of the day. SEPTA said operations will not resume until conditions are deemed safe for both passengers and employees.

As of Sunday afternoon, all Regional Rail, bus routes, and Metro Route G1 were scheduled to be suspended. T1 service will also shut down, while the remaining trolley lines are operating on reduced service. Metro routes L, B, D and M continue to run and are identified as the most reliable options during severe winter weather.

SEPTA encouraged riders to allow extra travel time and to monitor service alerts through its website and mobile app for the latest updates as the storm continues into Monday morning.

Customer Service remains open Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will open early Monday at 6 a.m., though all satellite offices will be closed.

The transit authority said crews had been preparing for winter weather across its 2,200-square-mile service area, including treating platforms and parking lots and staging equipment to keep critical corridors open when possible. SEPTA noted that frozen switches, ice on overhead wires, and weather conditions on Amtrak-owned tracks can all contribute to delays or shutdowns on certain Regional Rail lines.

SEPTA thanked riders for their patience and understanding, emphasizing that safety remains the top priority during the ongoing weather event. Riders can find full service updates at septa.org/alerts.
