Woman arrested for retail theft at Abington store, according to police

Abington Township Police responded to a report of a retail theft in progress at Burlington, located at 323 Old York Road, in Abington Township, according to court documents.

Officers were dispatched to the store after a manager reported detaining a suspected shoplifter. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the manager, who stated she observed the suspect, later identified as Chemika Avery, 39, of Philadelphia, select multiple items throughout the store without paying for them.

Police said Avery concealed some merchandise inside a bag while placing other items in a shopping cart. After purchasing one item at a register, Avery allegedly attempted to leave the store through the elevator without paying for the remaining merchandise. The manager stopped Avery before she exited the store.

All unpaid merchandise was recovered. The total value of the items was reported as $211.81.

  • Joggers: $19.99
  • V-neck elastic jogger set: $19.99
  • Two-pack basic cargo bottoms: $14.99
  • V-neck knit jogger set: $19.99
  • Joggers with cargo pockets: $12.99
  • Root stimulator: $5.99 (quantity: 2)
  • 12 oz. hair oil: $7.99
  • 8 oz. hair oil: $7.99
  • Exfoliating gloves: $4.99
  • Three-pack Alexis butterfly hair accessories: $11.99
  • Embellished satin item: $19.99
  • Joggers: $14.99
  • Bottoms:— $14.98 (quantity: 2)


Police noted that Avery has at least two prior convictions for retail theft, escalating this incident to a felony offense. 

A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for Jan. 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
