The Abington School District took time this week to recognize the careers and contributions of several longtime employees whose retirements were approved by the school board, marking the end of decades of service to district students and families.
During its January board meeting, members formally honored five educators and staff members whose combined service spans more than a century. Board members expressed gratitude for the dedication, professionalism, and care each retiree brought to their roles across multiple schools and departments.
Among those recognized was Dr. Marla Wormley, assistant principal at Abington Senior High School, who served the district for five years. Board members thanked Wormley for her leadership and commitment to supporting students and staff at the high school level.
The board also honored Karen Miller, a physical education teacher at Abington Middle School, who is retiring after 20 years with the district. Miller was recognized for promoting student wellness and fostering a positive learning environment for generations of middle school students.
Jane Nechin, a music teacher at Rydal Elementary School, was applauded for an extraordinary 41-year career. Board members noted her lasting impact on students through music education and her role in shaping the creative lives of countless children throughout her time in the district.
Also retiring after 20 years of service is Donna Dzierza, a bus driver in the district’s transportation department. Board members highlighted the important role transportation staff play in student safety and praised Dzierza for her reliability and dedication.
Rounding out the list of retirees is Carol Stein, an aide at Willow Hill Elementary School, who served the district for 19 years. Stein was recognized for her daily support of students and teachers and for the care she brought to the school community.
