Abington man charged with felony possession with intent to deliver, according to police

Abington Township police have charged Luis Ortiz, 33, of Philadelphia, with a felony after a traffic stop in the Jenkintown area led to the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana and related items.

According to police, on Dec. 29, 2025, an officer observed Ortiz driving a brown Nissan Altima with a very dark window tint on Old York Road near Wyncote Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop due to the window tint violation and immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Ortiz consented to a search of his car, during which police recovered:

  • Four clear sandwich bags containing marijuana
  • 18 mylar pouches containing marijuana
  • 19 empty cylindrical vials and 13 empty mylar pouches
  • Fraudulent Pennsylvania registration paperwork

Police also discovered that Ortiz did not have a medical marijuana card, and the vehicle’s registration was invalid, originally issued for a 2024 Jaguar and not registered to Ortiz. Officers additionally found $1,161 in cash in various denominations.

Ortiz has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony, as well as related offenses tied to fraudulent vehicle registration. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2026, at 11:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
