An Abington Township police officer arrested a man on New Year’s Eve following a retail theft incident at Willow Grove Park Mall that also led to the discovery of illegal drugs, according to police.

At approximately 5:13 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2025, officers were patrolling the mall area at 2500 Moreland Road when Macy’s security contacted police regarding a retail theft suspect who was being detained.

Security personnel reported that they observed a man, later identified as Tyrone Williams, 30, of Darby, through store surveillance cameras in the men’s department.

Williams allegedly selected a Calvin Klein hat valued at $58 and a pair of SMR ST stretch gloves valued at $80, for a total of $138 in merchandise. Police said the suspect concealed the items inside a large reusable bag and exited the store through a second-floor mall entrance without paying.

Macy’s security stopped Williams outside the store and recovered the unpaid merchandise. He was taken into custody by Abington Township Police.

Police said Williams initially provided a false name and date of birth, which did not match any records in criminal justice databases. After multiple attempts to confirm his identity, he provided his correct information while being transported to the police station.

During the arrest, officers recovered a green zip-style bag labeled “Haagen-Dazs” that allegedly contained suspected narcotics and packaging materials. Police reported finding multiple capsules and baggies containing suspected crack cocaine and heroin, along with empty capsules believed to be new. Some of the heroin was packaged in small blue and green bags marked with a scorpion symbol.

Williams was arrested and charged in connection with the retail theft, providing false identification, and drug-related offenses. All charges are pending court proceedings.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
