Local officials are seeking public input as part of the Cheltenham Avenue Corridor Study, a planning initiative aimed at improving safety, traffic operations, and multimodal access along one of the area’s busiest roadways.
The study focuses on Cheltenham Avenue, a major east–west corridor that serves as a municipal boundary between Cheltenham Township, Springfield Township, and the City of Philadelphia. The road carries heavy daily traffic, multiple SEPTA bus routes, and supports a mix of residential, commercial, and institutional uses.
According to project planners, the study is evaluating the corridor’s current roadway configuration, including lane widths, turning movements, and intersection design, to determine whether changes could improve traffic flow and reduce speeding. Safety for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and drivers is a central focus, with particular attention paid to crossings, sidewalks, and accessibility.
Community engagement is a key component of the process. Residents and corridor users are encouraged to complete an online survey and share feedback through an interactive project map. Input gathered during this phase will help shape potential recommendations for future improvements.
The final report, expected in 2026, will provide guidance for municipalities as they consider long-term infrastructure and safety upgrades along Cheltenham Avenue.
