Residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on a proposed senior care development when the Board of Commissioners of Abington Township reconvenes a public hearing next month to consider a conditional use application for a property along Rydal Road.

The hearing is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in the board room of the Abington Township Municipal Building, located at 1176 Old York Road.

The applicant, Chaverim Realty Partners, LLC, is seeking conditional use approval for property at 1209 Rydal Road in Abington, identified as Montgomery County Tax Parcel No. 30-00-61132-00-2.

The request is filed under Section 301 of the township’s zoning ordinance and would allow development of:

  • Use E-10: Life Care Facility (Continuing Care)
  • Use E-12: Nursing Home

The site is currently located within the R-1 Low-Density Residential Zoning District, meaning township commissioners must determine whether the proposed uses meet conditional use standards before approval can be granted.

A copy of the application is available for public review through the township’s Code Enforcement Office by appointment between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Residents may schedule a review by contacting the township at [email protected] or calling (267) 536-1003.

Officials encourage residents to submit comments or questions in advance of the meeting using the same contact information.

Anyone requiring accommodations to participate in the hearing must notify the township before 10 a.m. on March 6, 2026.

Conditional use hearings allow township officials to evaluate potential impacts such as traffic, neighborhood compatibility, and public services before permitting specialized uses in residential districts. The March 7 meeting is expected to include public comment before commissioners take action on the pending application.
