A 59-year-old Abington woman, Alisett L. Schubert, was fatally shot by her husband in a dramatic roadside incident on Feb. 22, 2026, police said.

Now, according to documents, new information has been revealed about the incident.

According to the affidavit, the shooting was witnessed by a SEPTA bus driver who was stopped just 10 feet behind the vehicle on Huntington Pike near Fillmore Avenue. The bus driver reported hearing two or three "pops," or gunshots, before seeing a man exit the passenger side, open the driver’s door, while holding a handgun. The driver, Schubert, slumped outside the car, and the suspect then walked across the street and threw an object before fleeing.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jose Antonio Luna, Schubert’s husband, who was located about one mile away in Philadelphia. When officers approached, Luna pulled a gun to his own head and attempted to shoot himself twice, but the weapon was out of ammunition. Police later recovered a .38-caliber revolver containing five spent shell casings, which was registered to Schubert. Luna, who has an extensive criminal history including robbery, burglary, and illegal re-entry into the U.S., is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

Montgomery County detectives said Luna admitted to shooting his wife following a dispute. He told investigators the conflict began at a party earlier that day, where he became angry over what he felt was public disrespect. The couple struggled over Schubert’s purse after leaving the event; Luna took the firearm from the purse and shot Schubert multiple times as she tried to exit the car. He later called the victim’s mother and admitted she was dead before fleeing with her wallet.

Friends and family told police the marriage had a history of physical, verbal, and financial abuse, and at least one prior incident involved Luna punching Schubert.

The incident remains under investigation, and Luna is in custody facing charges.
