A routine traffic stop in Abington Township led to the discovery of a loaded firearm and potential legal violations by a local driver, according to policel

Justin Carter, 40, of the 3400 block of N. Smedley Street in Philadelphia, is facing a felony charge stemming from the incident.

According to police reports, an Abington Township officer on patrol at the intersection of Old York Road and Horace Avenue observed a black Tesla sedan, which had an extremely dark window tint that prevented the officer from seeing inside, as well as a tinted license plate cover that made the registration unreadable. Both conditions are violations of Pennsylvania vehicle codes.

The officer conducted a traffic stop. Upon contact with the driver, identified as Carter, the officer explained the reason for the stop. During the investigation, Carter was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic Cugir Micro Draco firearm with a magazine inserted.

A background check through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) revealed that Carter’s concealed carry permit had been revoked, making possession of the firearm illegal.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 5, 2026 at 9:45 a.m. before John D. Kessler.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
