A woman was fatally shot late Saturday night in Rockledge, and her husband is in custody, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 200 block of Huntingdon Pike. 6abc.com reported a 48-year-old woman was behind the wheel of an SUV when her husband, who was in the passenger seat, allegedly opened fire.

First responders told Montgomery County emergency dispatch that they found a gunshot victim outside the vehicle on the ground, with CPR in progress.

Authorities said the suspect exited the SUV and fled on foot. He was arrested about a block away, behind a nearby 7-Eleven, at Burholme Avenue and Oxford Avenue/Huntingdon Pike.

The identities of those involved have not been released. Charges and a motive were not immediately known as of late Saturday night.

The investigation remains ongoing.
