Genesius season opens
Genesius Theatre in Reading opens its 55th season with “The Behavior of Light” by acclaimed playwright Douglas Carter Beane, the troupe’s new artistic director. Beane, who grew up in Wyomissing, is a five-time Tony Award nominee. It is a return engagement for the play, which had a successful run in December. The show runs Thursday through Sunday. Family opera
Opera meets fairytale in “Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears” on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Miller Center for the Arts at Reading Area Community College. The production weaves music from operas by W. A. Mozart and Jacques Offenbach into a story filled with humor, memorable melodies and lively characters. It introduces audiences to the joy of opera in an accessible and entertaining way while reinforcing timeless lessons about honesty, respect, and working together in harmony.
A dessert reception will be held after Friday’s performance. The production is a collaboration involving Berks Opera Company, the Miller Center and the Yocum Institute for Arts Education.

Photo exhibition
The Reading Public Museum presents the photo-docuseries “Native America: Stories in Motion with The Red Road Project” through May 3. The exhibition highlights stories of present-day Native American individuals and communities, providing a platform for them to share their past, present and future in their own voices. It features more than 90 color photographs and a video. The exhibition is the result of more than a decade of work by artists Danielle SeeWalker and Carlotta Cardana. Musical premiere
The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope presents the world premiere of “Starstruck,” a musical comedy with music by Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls, opening Thursday and running through March 21. The cast features Broadway performers Beth Malone (who co-wrote the book), Krysta Rodriguez and Sam Gravitte.
At the Playhouse Barn, “American Idol” performer Alyssa Wray performs “Golden Age Through Today – My Way!” on Sunday at 7 p.m. It features an assortment of musical theater favorites, past and present.
