A former Cheltenham Township resident has been sentenced in an animal neglect case after multiple deceased cats were discovered in her Elkins Park apartment following her eviction, according to a report.

Chawana Sandra Robinson, 51, previously of the 7300 block of Sycamore Avenue, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court to three misdemeanor counts of animal neglect stemming from a July 2024 investigation. Judge William R. Carpenter sentenced her to three years of probation and barred her from owning animals during that time.

The case began July 8, 2024, when the landlord of her former apartment contacted the Montgomery County SPCA after discovering numerous abandoned cats inside the unit following Robinson’s eviction.

Authorities and animal welfare officials initially removed eight live cats and one deceased cat from the apartment. In the weeks that followed, additional deceased cats were found in various areas of the residence, including behind a washing machine, in the basement, and beneath a bathtub. Several of the animals were severely decomposed.

More serious animal cruelty charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
