Drivers in and around the Cheltenham area should plan ahead later this month as construction work will temporarily close a busy stretch of Church Road.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is moving forward with utility construction as part of a $10.8 million project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety along Route 73 (Church Road) at the intersections of Greenwood Avenue and Rices Mill Road in Cheltenham Township.
As part of that work, Route 73 (Church Road) will be fully closed for 24 hours beginning Saturday, Feb. 28, through Sunday, March 1. The closure will affect Church Road between Greenwood Avenue and Washington Lane.
During the shutdown, drivers will be detoured along Greenwood Avenue, Township Line Road, and Washington Lane. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time, especially during peak hours. All work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled if conditions require.
The larger intersection improvement project is designed to address congestion and enhance safety at two of Cheltenham’s heavily traveled crossroads. Updates and additional project details are available on PennDOT’s Route 73 Intersection Improvements webpage.
