The Abington Township Police Department is investigating two burglary-related incidents that occurred last week in the Rydal section of the township and is urging residents to remain alert.
According to police, the first incident took place on Jan. 17, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m., when officers responded to an attempted residential burglary in the 900 block of Meetinghouse Road. Investigators said suspects attempted to gain entry through a basement window and a rear door, but were unsuccessf
The following evening, Jan. 18, around 7:10 p.m., police reported a residential burglary in the 700 block of Washington Lane. In that case, suspects allegedly entered the home through a basement window and exited through a rear door, taking several items of value from inside the residence.
Police say the close proximity of the two locations, the similar methods of entry, and the fact that the incidents occurred on consecutive days suggest the crimes may be related and possibly committed by the same individual or group.
As the investigation continues, police are reminding residents to take precautions to protect their homes and to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.
Abington police also shared several safety tips for homeowners, including keeping homes well-lit by using outdoor lighting and timers, parking a vehicle in the driveway when possible, setting alarm systems, and utilizing security cameras. Officers noted that burglars often target master bedrooms, advising residents to store valuables in less obvious areas of the home. Residents are also encouraged to be aware of unfamiliar people or vehicles in their neighborhood and to report anything suspicious.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact Abington Township Police.
