Man with active warrant arrested for suspected narcotics packaged for distribution, police say

The driver was wanted in connection with a shoplifting investigation out of Bensalem Township

A traffic stop in Cheltenham Township led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of suspected narcotics packaged for distribution, according to court documents filed by police.

On April 8, 2026, an officer with the Cheltenham Township Police Department was alerted to a vehicle traveling eastbound on Church Road near Old York Road after a VIPR system notification indicated the driver was wanted in connection with a shoplifting investigation out of Bensalem Township.

Police confirmed the alert through NCIC records before initiating a traffic stop near Church Road and High School Road. Upon making contact with the driver, identified in court documents as Rodney Jackson, 25, of Philadelphia, the officer reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Authorities say Jackson was immediately recognized as the individual connected to the active warrant and was taken into custody at the scene. The warrant was later confirmed by radio.

During the stop, Jackson allegedly gave verbal consent to search the vehicle, reportedly telling police, “Go ahead and search it, it’s just weed in there.”

According to the affidavit, officers discovered multiple bags and containers of suspected marijuana in different areas of the vehicle, including backpacks in the rear seat and trunk, as well as additional packages under the front passenger seat. Police also reported finding packaging materials, digital scales, multiple cell phones, and cash.

Investigators described the items as consistent with narcotics distribution, citing individually packaged quantities and labeled baggies. In total, officers reported seizing dozens of prepackaged bags of suspected marijuana in various amounts, along with approximately $440 in cash.

All evidence was collected and placed into police custody, and the suspect was transported for further processing without incident.

Jackson is charged under Pennsylvania Title 35 health and safety provisions. Court records indicate police are requesting the case proceed by summons.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 27, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge R. Emmett Madden.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
