Police departments in Abington, Jenkintown, and Lower Moreland will be stepping up traffic enforcement this month as part of a regional initiative targeting aggressive and unsafe driving.
The Abington Township Police Department, Jenkintown Police Department, and Lower Moreland Township Police Department are among more than 80 local agencies participating in the campaign led by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania State Police.
As part of the initiative, a coordinated enforcement operation will take place on April 14, with officers focusing on aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, running stop signs, and distracted driving.
The enforcement wave runs through April 26 and will include increased patrols, traffic enforcement zones, and targeted details aimed at identifying dangerous driving behaviors. Officials say drivers who engage in aggressive driving can expect to be stopped.
According to PennDOT, aggressive driving continues to be a major safety concern in the region. Preliminary 2025 data shows more than 2,100 crashes linked to aggressive driving across southeastern Pennsylvania, resulting in dozens of fatalities and serious injuries.
Police will also be enforcing distracted driving laws, including Paul Miller’s Law, which prohibits the use of handheld devices while driving. Officers are currently issuing warnings, with fines set to begin on June 5.
Authorities say the initiative is not only about enforcement, but also about prevention and awareness. Drivers are encouraged to remain calm, avoid distractions, and practice safe driving habits.
Residents in Abington, Jenkintown, and Lower Moreland can expect an increased police presence on local roadways throughout the enforcement period.
