Authorities issued a public alert earlier on April 9 seeking help in locating Taras Sowirka, who goes by Ted

A 99-year-old man who was reported missing Thursday evening has been safely located and returned home, according to the Abington Township Police Department.

Authorities issued a public alert earlier on April 9 seeking help in locating Taras Sowirka, who goes by Ted. Police said Sowirka had left his home in the Meadowbrook section of the township around 5 p.m.

In an update issued at approximately 11:45 p.m., police confirmed that Sowirka had been found and was safely back home with his family.

According to police, he had driven away from his residence in a white Hyundai Azera bearing Pennsylvania registration GTN-6527. He was last seen wearing a blue military-style hat, a blue jacket, and dark pants, and was known to walk with a cane.

Due to his age, Sowirka had been entered into a Silver Alert through the Pennsylvania State Police as authorities worked to locate him.

Police thanked the public for their assistance and attention in helping bring the situation to a safe resolution.
