Residents in Willow Grove may have noticed a recent change in the local dining scene, as a Federal Donuts & Chicken location in the area has closed amid broader shifts within the company.
The store, located at 4021 Welsh Road, opened its doors in January 2025, and is now closing just 15 months after its grand opening.
According to a report, the Willow Grove store was one of several suburban locations shut down by a major franchise group that had been expanding the popular Philadelphia-born brand. The closures also included locations in Radnor and along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Federal Donuts & Chicken, founded by Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook, has been working to stabilize operations after its largest franchise partner began closing stores earlier this year.
The company originally launched in 2011 and quickly became a well-known name in the region, with ambitious plans to expand across the suburbs and beyond. However, recent franchise challenges have slowed that growth.
