Public libraries in Abington and Jenkintown are set to receive state funding as part of a broader investment in library facilities across Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education announced more than $11 million in Keystone Grants for 27 libraries statewide, aimed at improving infrastructure, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.

Locally, the Abington Township Public Library was awarded $749,750 to plan and design a future library facility that is more accessible, energy-efficient, and tailored to community needs. Officials say the funding will support long-term improvements to better serve residents.

In nearby Jenkintown, the Jenkintown Library received $81,900 to develop a comprehensive master plan. The plan will focus on upgrades related to accessibility, safety, energy efficiency, maintenance, and potential expansion of the library.

These grants are part of the state’s ongoing effort to strengthen public libraries as community hubs. Funding is typically used for projects such as building repairs, HVAC upgrades, accessibility improvements, and renovations of public spaces.

State officials say libraries continue to play a critical role in local communities, providing access to educational resources, internet services, and programming for residents of all ages.

Since 2023, Pennsylvania has invested more than $23 million in similar projects statewide. The latest round of funding highlights continued demand for modern, accessible library spaces—something local officials say will benefit residents in Abington, Jenkintown, and surrounding communities for years to come.
