A man was taken into custody following a disturbance that escalated into a foot pursuit and physical altercation with police outside a retail store in Abington Township.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on March 26 in the 2500 block of Moreland Road in Willow Grove. Officers were dispatched to a Dollar Tree after employees reported a verbal dispute involving a man later identified as Taire Dixon, 22, of Philadelphia.
When officers arrived, Dixon allegedly fled on foot despite commands to stop, running north and then west along Moreland Road through a busy parking lot with moving vehicles. Police pursued him as he entered a nearby AAA store on the same block of Moreland Road.
Inside the store, officers attempted to detain Dixon, who refused to comply. Authorities say he resisted arrest, pushing and shoving officers as they attempted to place him in handcuffs. Officers used physical restraint techniques to subdue him after a brief struggle. He was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
Store employees told police they recognized Dixon from previous encounters and had previously warned him he was not permitted on the premises. They reported that earlier in the day, Dixon entered the store despite those warnings.
Witnesses also alleged that Dixon engaged in inappropriate behavior inside the store, including exposing himself in a public aisle in view of employees and customers of all ages.
Dixon is facing charges related to indecent exposure, criminal trespassing, evading arrest and resisting officers.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April, 8, 2026 at 1:45 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
