Residents will have the chance to learn more about the future of SPS Technologies tonight, as company officials prepare to unveil their vision for a new aerospace fasteners facility in Abington Township.

The informational meeting is set for Thursday, Sept. 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Abington School District Middle School Little Theater, located at 2056 Susquehanna Road. Hosted in partnership with Abington Township, the event will feature presentations, renderings, and opportunities for the public to ask questions.

The session comes in the wake of a devastating fire and explosions that tore through SPS’s Highland Avenue facility in February, destroying hundreds of thousands of square feet of manufacturing space. The incident forced widespread layoffs, cutting the workforce nearly in half and leaving many employees and neighbors uncertain about the company’s future in the community.

Demolition of the fire-damaged structures has already been completed, clearing the way for the next phase of planning and development.

According to township officials, the Sept. 25 meeting will focus on SPS’s plans to rebuild on its longtime site. Early details suggest the new facility will have a smaller, more modern footprint, designed with enhanced safety measures and updated regulatory standards. Company leaders are also expected to discuss efforts to restore and expand local employment, recapturing jobs lost in the aftermath of the fire.

Township leaders emphasized that transparency and community input are central to the process. Residents will have the chance to hear directly from SPS representatives, ask questions, and provide feedback on the proposal.

For a community that has endured both the disruption of the fire and the economic uncertainty that followed, the Sept. 25 meeting is seen as a pivotal moment. Township officials are encouraging residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to attend and take part in shaping the future of one of the area’s major employers.
