An Upper Dublin man will serve prison time and register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography, according to a report.

John C. Spangler, 45, of Susquehanna Road, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 14–28 months in state prison, followed by four years of probation. Judge Wendy G. Rothstein also ordered Spangler to register as a sex offender for 15 years under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law.

Prosecutors said investigators traced child sexual abuse material to Spangler’s home in September 2023. A February 2024 search of his residence uncovered 24 storage devices containing 143 video files and thumbnails of children engaged in sexual acts.

Spangler is barred from unsupervised contact with minors while under supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Bradley Walter Deckel said the sentence was appropriate given the nature of the materials. A related charge of criminal use of a communication facility was dismissed.
