Expressive Path will present Art in the Park at Elmwood Park Zoo on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Zoo admission will be free for residents of the 19401 ZIP code.

This event is part of Expressive Path’s new summer series, sponsored by Ambler Savings Bank, which also includes Juneteenth and open-mic cultural celebrations. Both Expressive Path and Ambler Savings Bank share a mission to make the arts and culture accessible to underserved communities.

Art in the Park offers something for everyone. Visitors can enjoy art vendors, boutique shopping, games, raffles, food trucks, and live performances by local students, including the Norristown Area High School drumline. Attendees can get creative at the Expressive Path Art Annex, which includes face painting, caricatures, crafts, and fun characters.

The afternoon will feature live music from various singer-songwriters, live art demonstrations, dance performances, and a beer garden. John Henderson and Josh Drennan will provide event sound.

“Expressive Path is proud to partner with Elmwood Park Zoo for the fifth year,” said Pamela Martin, executive director of Expressive Path. “Both of our nonprofits are committed to making a positive impact in Norristown through education, cultural opportunities, and inclusion. We are honored to receive support from Ambler Savings Bank. These relationships create opportunities for underserved and disadvantaged communities.”

Expressive Path is a Norristown-based nonprofit creative arts organization that empowers disadvantaged youth ages 12-19 through educational workshops, performances, and community service. Expressive Path offers mobile and in-person programming through the Expressive Path Creative Arts Center. Students engage in theater, dance, music, humanities, and visual arts. Summer offerings include the Expressive Path Creative Arts Camp, and teens can attend Community Creators, a Friday night social group that keeps them safe, productive, and inspired.

Deeply committed to collaboration and community development, Expressive Path works with the Norristown Area School District and a wide network of schools, nonprofits, churches, shelters, detention centers, and recreation facilities. In 2023, Expressive Path relocated to Cherry Street in Norristown, increasing access to creative arts for underserved communities. The organization now serves approximately 500 unique students annually across a five-county region, with a special focus on Norristown.

Elmwood Park Zoo’s mission is to foster a love for wildlife and the environment, encouraging active participation in conservation. Learn more at elmwoodparkzoo.org.
