A Philadelphia man is headed to prison after admitting to his role in two carjackings, including one right here in Abington Township, according to a report.
Rashawn Amin Williams, 19, was sentenced to 5 to 15½ years in state prison, plus four years of probation, after pleading guilty to charges that included robbery of a motor vehicle and fleeing from police.
The case stems from incidents on Sept. 18, 2024, when police say Williams and others first stole a Nissan Rogue in Philadelphia, then later that day attacked a woman in the Michael’s parking lot located at 1415 Old York Road in Abington and took her Chevrolet Trax. The victim suffered minor injuries.
Abington Police used license plate readers to help track the stolen cars back to Philadelphia, where officers located the Trax. After a short chase and crash, Williams and a juvenile accomplice ran into a wooded area, but were quickly caught with help from K9 units.
During transport back to Abington, Williams damaged police equipment, causing about $5,000 in damage. He also pleaded guilty to institutional vandalism.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office handled the prosecution for both the Philadelphia and Abington crimes.
