Cheltenham School District Superintendent Dr. Brian W. Scriven informed the community about an incident at Myers Elementary School, located at 7609 Montgomery Avenue, Elkins Park, involving an unspent shell casing discovered on the floor of a classroom on Friday, Oct. 17.
An investigation conducted with the support of the district’s Safety and Security Department and the Cheltenham Township Police Department determined that the item posed no danger.
“Confirmed that no weapon was involved, there was no plan to harm anyone, and the item in question was not obtained on or near school grounds,” Dr. Scriven wrote, adding that “this was an isolated incident, and there was no threat to the safety of students or staff.”
The school district emphasized that it has addressed the situation in accordance with established procedures.
“Appropriate disciplinary and restorative actions have been taken in alignment with Cheltenham School District policies and in coordination with local law enforcement,” the notice stated. “We take all safety-related incidents extremely seriously and respond with accountability and care for all involved.”
School officials are encouraging parents and community members to reach out with any questions and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
