Montgomery County will convene the first meeting of its newly established Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence for Public Good on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at Montgomery County Community College.
The event will open with a networking reception from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by opening remarks from County Commissioner Neil Makhija. While the reception and remarks are open to the media, the Council’s working session from 4:15 to 6:00 p.m. will be closed to the press.
Commissioner Makhija will also be available for brief pre-meeting interviews between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m., according to county officials.
The meeting will take place in College Hall (Building A-3), Rooms 144/148, at the college’s Blue Bell campus, located at 340 Dekalb Pike. Attendees are encouraged to park in the Morris Road Lot, which provides the most direct access to the venue.
The creation of the Advisory Council marks a major step in the County’s effort to responsibly integrate artificial intelligence into public operations. Formed in September 2025, the 24-member council brings together experts, practitioners, and thought leaders from both the public and private sectors.
According to county officials, the council will guide policy and strategy to ensure AI technologies are used “for public good”—helping improve government services, enhance data-driven decision-making, and build public trust in emerging technologies.
The council’s work will focus on five key areas:
Smart governance
Finance and procurement
Public safety
Health and human services
Legal, ethical, and regulatory compliance
Each area will emphasize public engagement, equitable service delivery, and accountability in how AI tools are applied within county operations.
An interdepartmental team of county employees will work alongside the council to identify opportunities for responsible AI integration and ensure transparency and oversight as recommendations are implemented.
