The Upper Dublin School District Board of School Directors convened in a special legislative meeting on Oct. 13 to fill the vacancy left by board member Stu Warshawer, who resigned on Sept. 17.
A total of 10 residents applied for the open seat, and based on feedback from current board members, five candidates were selected for public interviews. The school board interviewed the final candidates during the meeting, which included:
All five candidates were interviewed simultaneously in a panel-style format, responding to the same set of seven questions in rotating order.
During the interview process, each candidate was asked questions covering governance, equity, fiscal responsibility, and public communication. Specifically, the interview process consisted of the following questions:
1. Roles and Responsibilities of the School Board and Administration
2. Navigating Multiple Community Perspectives
3. Advancing a Safe, Inclusive, and Equitable Environment
4. Determining Reasonableness of Tax Increases
5. Balancing Swift Action with Board Responsibilities
6. Navigating Social Media as a Public Figure
7. Closing Statements
After nearly three hours of interviews, deliberations, and multiple rounds of voting, Burdo was appointed with five votes, while Golombeck, the other final candidate, received three. Rosenstock was the third finalist.
"So we have reached five, Mr. Burdo, congratulations," the school board said. "Morgan, thank you, and congratulations to you, as well. This was, as you can tell, a very tough decision. I mean, from an embarrassment of riches all around."
The school board offered that Golombek should apply again if a seat should be vacant in the future.
