Upper Dublin Township has announced plans for a major renovation of the Upper Dublin Public Library (UDPL), set to begin in 2026.

The project will restore and expand public spaces within the library, creating a more accessible and flexible environment for residents, according to a recent announcement.

The renovation follows the Township’s plan to relocate the Upper Dublin Police Department to the new municipal building, expected to be completed in late 2025. The police department has been temporarily housed in part of the library since the 2021 tornado. Once the new building opens, those shared areas will return to full library use and undergo significant upgrades.

“These renovations represent the next chapter in UDPL’s service to our community,” said Cheri Fiory, Director of the Upper Dublin Public Library. “By revitalizing these spaces, we’re ensuring the Library remains a place where people can learn, connect, and thrive together.”

Highlights of the project include a complete upgrade of the library auditorium, featuring an expanded stage, new theatrical lighting, an enhanced sound system with hearing assistance, and a new Green Room for performances and presentations. Additional improvements will include upgraded HVAC systems, programmable lighting, and enhanced screens and monitors for public events.

More than 3,000 square feet of new community space will be added, along with renovated meeting rooms featuring improved soundproofing. The former café near the main lobby will also be restored as a welcoming gathering spot for patrons.

Funding for the renovation comes in part from a U.S. Department of the Treasury grant administered by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority, with additional support from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries and the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Keystone Recreation, Park, and Conservation Fund.

Residents can learn more about the project at the Upper Dublin Township Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m.
