As the nation gears up to celebrate the 250th birthday of the country, Montgomery County has some plans of its own. The county has established its own committee charged with organizing, promoting, and celebrating the poignant occasion.

“This historic milestone is an opportunity to celebrate our nation's past, and look ahead toward the future, especially here in Montgomery County,” states the county’s page on the committee and its upcoming events. “As the Gateway to Independence, Montgomery County plays an outsized role in the fabric of our nation. From our historical significance in the Revolutionary War to the diverse and vibrant cultures of our present-day community, Montgomery County is poised to be at the center—both of our past and of our future.”

One such event is already on the slate. While the official birthday isn’t until July 4, 2026, Pottsgrove Manor aims to kick-off the festivities with a preview of its own. On Saturday, Nov. 15, the historic space will play host to a revolutionary-era militia demonstration.

“The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a fascinating presentation on Colonel Thomas Potts’ Associator Battalion, offering insight into Pottstown’s Revolutionary War connections,” said Communications Director Megan Alt, in a press release from the Montgomery County Office of Communications. “Outside, reenactors dressed in the uniform of the Philadelphia County Associators will demonstrate military drill, daily camp life, and supporting the troops.”

In addition to lessons on the historic roles of the region played in the revolution, guests will also be able to see an actual weapon of the times. The artifact was, in fact, uncovered right at the Manor property itself.

“Visitors will also get the chance to see a Revolutionary War-era cannon, cast at Warwick Furnace, once buried and now unearthed to display at Pottsgrove Manor for this special event,” said Alt.

During the special fall event, the county will also promote its upcoming slate of festivities designed to celebrate the nation’s birthday in a variety of ways. A schedule of celebrations will be unveiled to help area residents prepare for “the road to 250.”

“Guests will be able to explore what Montgomery County’s historic sites have planned for the semiquincentennial and enjoy a self-guided tour of Pottsgrove Manor’s first floor,” said Alt.

A suggested donation of $2 per person is requested at the event. While the event will be held rain or shine, outdoor activities will be “scaled down” in the event of inclement weather, Alt said.

Pottsgrove Manor is located at 100 West King St., in Pottstown, near the intersection of King Street and Route 100, just off Route 422 near both the Carousel at Pottstown and Manatawny Green Miniature Golf Course.

Pottsgrove Manor is operated by the Montgomery County Division of Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites. For more information, please call (610) 326-4014 or visit montgomerycountypa.gov/930/Pottsgrove-Manor. For the most current information, follow the location on social media.
