Authorities in Montgomery County have launched an investigation after a man’s body was discovered inside a garbage can in Norristown on Monday night, according to a report.
The grim discovery was made in a wooded area near West Washington and Noble Streets, where police were called to the scene shortly before 8 p.m. Witnesses reported a heavy law enforcement presence in the neighborhood as officers cordoned off the area and began their investigation.
ABC Chopper 6 captured aerial footage showing multiple police vehicles and investigators working under floodlights as they examined the scene. The area, located near residential blocks and a small stretch of wooded land, remained closed to the public late into the evening.
According to initial reports obtained by Action News, the deceased individual has been identified as a male, though officials have not yet released his name pending notification of next of kin. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and Norristown Police Department are jointly handling the investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed how long the body may have been at the location or who discovered it. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, which remain undetermined as of Tuesday morning.
Police have not commented on whether foul play is suspected but say the investigation is active and ongoing. Residents in the area are urged to contact Norristown Police with any information that may assist investigators.
