For the first time in program history, the Abington Ghosts are headed to the PIAA state semifinals, a milestone achievement for a team that has steadily climbed back into championship form.
Just one year ago, Abington’s season ended in heartbreak on the very same field at Chambersburg High School, where they fell to Norwin in penalty kicks during the quarterfinals. This year, however, redemption was the theme. After a tense, scoreless first half, the Ghosts broke through midway through the second half with two goals in just 30 seconds — one from Jaza Vasquez and another from Christian Hinkle.
From there, Abington’s defense — anchored by goalkeeper George Hooven — held strong to preserve the shutout and seal the historic victory.
